VO Auditions

Where do I find Voice Acting Auditions?

A quick google search for “voice acting auditions”, “vo auditions”, “voiceover auditions”, etc. will turn up a lot of results and it’s hard to know where to start. I’ve collected some links here to get you started, but the landscape is always changing, so you’ll have to keep researching and ask lots of people to stay on top of shifts in the industry and in your specific niche.

Many of these sites are a great place to get started, but remember:
Direct Marketing is King!
Friends, Family, Colleagues, Local Businesses, and Cold Approaches will help you build your portfolio and find reliable clients without competing with the millions (billions?) of potential voice actor competitors online. Once you’ve got a good demo reel (a headshot, resume, and website don’t hurt either!) start crafting an email for businesses to reach out to, and work on your talking points to call local businesses or show up in person and offer your voiceover services.

*A Note on Social Media:
A HUGE amount of VO Auditions only appear on Social Media. In particular:
Twitter/X; Reddit; Discord; Facebook; Instagram; LinkedIn; etc.
I’ll include a few links to places to check out, but these change rapidly, day-by-day, so do your own research and use search terms like “casting call” “VO casting” “audio drama” “voice actor auditions” etc.

CastingCallClubs
Best place for amateurs to look for ‘character’ auditions. Mostly unpaid ‘passion projects’ from amateurs, you’ll be in heavy competition, but you can book interesting projects. A lot of fan fiction, anime, YouTube, video game related opportunities. Uniquely, CCC lets you listen to other people’s auditions, so you can learn a lot here.

Voice Acting Club
A great message board for finding auditions for a variety of paid and unpaid projects.

Audiobooks:
LibraVox: Record Public Domain Audiobooks for free to practice your skills, build a portfolio, and contribute to the community.
Audible ACX: Professional paid jobs. “Revenue Share” means you aren’t paid upfront, but ‘share’ in the sales, so if it doesn’t sell you don’t make anything, but if it’s a bestseller, you can make a lot more. ACX has very high audio-quality standards that beginners usually can’t meet at first, so starting with LibraVox is good for building your skills and trying to meet ACX Standards and use the ACX AudioLab to check your work

Pay-To-Play Sites
Pay-To-Play or P2P refers to sites with subscription/membership fees to view/submit auditions. There are many of them, and their policies, fees, and quality are constantly shifting. Many of the most popular and established ones have raised rates and become less voice-actor-friendly in recent years. While there are particulars about each platform, they change enough that I encourage voice actors to do their own research, create a ‘shortlist’ of the ones that they like, and when you’re ready to spend some money, do a 1-month trial membership on a few sites and submit lots of auditions and see what happens. You’ll generally find a platform or two that you like the format and features and feel it works for you. For every platform that exists, there are people who love it and make all their money there, and people who hate it and want it to disappear. Navigating these various opinions can be difficult, so I encourage you to click each link, look around, and when you’re ready, sign up for a trial membership and see what the platform is like. You should be able to book plenty of unpaid and small-scale projects with the links above before worrying too much about paid sites.
